Model Railway update: Alan Gee

OO Gauge Ruddington

Nothing really new to report since the last article, but we have acquired two new members. One of them, Dave Wood, is a joiner so we have set him on making new shelving to store the ever increasing amount of stock and locomotives that we have purchased and acquired some through donation by our good friend and member Barry Horsley. I have now finished painting the sky back scene, which looks not too bad for a first attempt and the scenic on the MOD branch is now complete and waiting for the buildings and electrics so we can run trains of military vehicles into it just like the real thing. A photographer by the name of Chris Nevard came to us in May, from Model Rail Magazine and took about 25 shots, they look absolutely amazing they are so lifelike and should appear in that magazine around October so I am informed. It is so gratifying to see all the hard work and attention to detail coming to fruition.

OO Gauge Thomas the Tank Engine

Again nothing new to report since the last article, but I have a few ideas in mind to freshen it up including modelling a tunnel, the kids seem to like trains rushing in and out of tunnel entrances.

OO Gauge Kings Cross

Still standing in the garage block awaiting some TLC. If there is anyone out there interested in restoring it and giving it a good home as we cannot find the space to house it, call on site any Sunday during operating days or contact the Heritage Centre.

O Gauge Millhouse Lane

Work continues on the scenics at a slow pace but it will get there one day, I don't think any of the layouts will be truly finished as I am always looking for ways to improve them. We seem to struggle for operators at times, especially on Millhouse Lane as Barry and his superb collection of O Gauge stock cannot always make it.

The previous owner of Millhouse Lane, Mike Macdonald, has now left us completely and moved to pastures new in Mablethorpe and has built a brand new layout call Monks Bay a fictitious setting on the coast in the Southwest, my contribution to it was a scrap yard setting called Macs Scrap and Spares built out of any bits and bobs I could lay my hands on. The model looks superb and anyone visiting Mablethorpe should go and see it, it is situated on the fun fair and there is a small entrance fee, it can also be viewed on his web site. WWW.Monksbaymodelrailway.co.uk. On the whole visitors coming through the doors and the questions they ask about the history of the GCR at Ruddington and construction of the models seem to be on the increase as are the donations we receive which help keep everything running. Long may it continue.
